Kid's Lit
Continues at Mt. Carmel
Since the first day of Advent 2002,
we have been blessed to have
Children's Liturgy at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel at the 9 a.m.
Sunday Mass. Just
before the First Reading, the priest or deacon asks that
all children who want to, from pre-school through
fifth grade, go to the Rectory basement with the "shepherd" and
assistants for their own Gospel reading and discussion
-- in their own words!The
children return to the church for the Offering, and some
of the children bring up the gifts. We
have a wonderful group of adult volunteers -- but we could
alway use more! Each volunteer is called on to help every
six weeks or so. Just call (below) if you can help share
the Word of God with our kids.We
have one shepherd (or leader) and two assistants each Sunday
(except Christmas and Easter)! We have an easy-to-follow
lesson plan that each shepherd receives,
and we give the kids a pamphlet after each Children's Liturgy.
(We use Pflaum Publishing materials, but shepherds are
welcome to augment the lesson in any way they see fit.)
We also have a keyboard, whiteboard and cassette player
and tapes for you to use. Also,
we have materials for a prayer table, which we ask you
to set up before Mass (usually the shepherds arrive by
8:40 p.m. to set the basement up). All
parents are welcome to attend Children's Liturgy with
their child(ren) to see how it works. We hope you and your
child(ren) will join us!!
Also of interest....
Some
parents are interested in starting a children's choir.
If you are interested, please contact Maria Evans.

Time
to Rethink Children’s Liturgy
"Children long for
somebody to accept them, to love them, to praise them. Let
us bring the child back to the center of our care and concern.
This is the only way the world can survive because our children
are the only hope of the future."
-- Mother Theresa
OLMC offers children from
pre-K to fifth grade a Children’s Liturgy during
the 9 a.m. Mass. Children’s Liturgy is a wonderful ministry
where adult volunteers share Mass with children on the child’s
level so that children can understand and appreciate the readings
and the Gospel. We have guidebooks that give complete instructions
on what to teach the children so they learn the same lesson
adults learn at Mass – only at a child’s level!
Thank you to all 20-plus
parents who are already helping. But we could use a few more
folks to proclaim the Gospel to the children. You’d rotate
so you’d only do it a few times a year.
Please join us for a reorientation,
feedback and planning meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Sunday,
Sept. 7, in the rectory basement. We welcome your suggestions!
